Lake Tahoe, Stateline, NV – Grading and digging season for permitted projects at Lake Tahoe started May 1 and will remain open through October 15.
Soil disturbing activities are limited outside of the May 1 to October 15 grading season because that’s when most of the Lake Tahoe Region’s precipitation occurs. The restriction is in place to prevent loose soil and mud from washing into Lake Tahoe and reducing water quality.
Grading season exceptions for soil disturbing activities outside of the grading season can be approved for projects where an emergency exists, or for other situations.
Activities that do not require a grading season exception, even outside the grading season, include:
- Up to three cubic yards of soil disturbance not part of a larger project, if completed within 48 hours and the site is stabilized to prevent erosion.
- Backfilling using clean gravel, with equipment confined to pavement.
- Paving, if al grading and base compaction is already completed.
