Lake Tahoe, Stateline, NV – A schedule of upcoming Tahoe Talks Brown Bag Lunches was announced this week by the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency. The next Tahoe Talk is set for Wednesday, September 16 and offers the public a preview of the new Bijou Bike Park in South Lake Tahoe.
Held at Bijou Park on Al Tahoe Boulevard, the Tahoe Talk will also focus on other South Shore bike riding opportunities for children, including Bike to School Week, area bike clubs, and new Safe Routes to Schools trails that are being developed.
Speakers will include Rebecca Bryson, of the South Lake Tahoe Parks and Recreation Commission; Gianna Aveni, of the Lake Tahoe Sustainability Collaborative Community Mobility Group; and Ben Fish, President of the Tahoe Area Mountain Biking Association.
South Lake Tahoe will officially open the new Bijou Bike Park on Saturday, September 19 with a ribbon cutting ceremony after the city’s 50th Anniversary Parade.
TRPA, in its capacity as the Tahoe Metropolitan Planning Organization, created the Tahoe Talks Brown Bag Lunch Series to provide a casual forum for people to discuss ways to strengthen and improve communities, make the region safer for bicyclists and pedestrians, and protect Tahoe’s unique natural environment. Partners include the League to Save Lake Tahoe, One South Shore, Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition, and Lake Tahoe Sustainability Collaborative Community Mobility Group.
“We encourage everyone who wants to share or discuss new ideas that we can bring to Lake Tahoe to attend a Tahoe Talk. We would also like to get ideas for specific topics of interest from the community,” said Karen Fink, Principal Transportation Planner at TRPA.
Tahoe Talks Brown Bag Lunches are free and open to the public. The lunches run from noon to 1:30 p.m. Locations vary, so please check each talk for specific details. Upcoming topics include:
- Wednesday, September 16: “Me and My Bike – Fun and Safe Ways for Kids to Get on their Bikes in South Lake Tahoe.” Held at the pavilion at Bijou Park on Al Tahoe Boulevard, South Lake Tahoe.
- Wednesday, October 21: “Transit Series: Journey to the Trailhead: Improving Transit Connections to Recreation Opportunities.” Held in the Creekside Room at Lake Tahoe Community College, One College Drive, South Lake Tahoe.
- Wednesday, November 18: “Transit Series: What’s in Store for Transit North and South?” Held in the Aspen Room at Lake Tahoe Community College, One College Drive, South Lake Tahoe.
- Wednesday, December 16: “Uniting Tahoe’s Communities: Addressing Prosperity for Tahoe’s Residents.” Held in the Aspen Room at Lake Tahoe Community College, One College Drive, South Lake Tahoe.
- Wednesday, January 20: “How-to-City: From Idea to Reality, Making a Community Project Happen.” Location to be determined.
- Wednesday, February 17: “How-to-City: The Town of Truckee’s Success in Funding Recreation Time.” Location to be determined.
- Wednesday, March 16: “How-to-City: Homeowner’s Handbook.” Location to be determined.
- Wednesday, April 20: “Hide Trash Here, Please: Protecting our Shoreline from Trash.” Location to be determined.
