Stateline, NV – The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) is currently taking nominations for the Lake Spirit Awards honoring real people making real progress at protecting Lake Tahoe. Members of the public are encouraged to nominate exemplary members of our community who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to protect the beauty and clarity of the Lake.

Because everyone has a role to play in the preservation and restoration of the Lake, TRPA introduced the Lake Spirit Awards in 2011 to recognize individuals that showed exceptional commitment to the Tahoe Basin. In addition to nominations for exemplary citizens of Lake Tahoe, nominations are also open in the agency representative/environmental scientist category. A North Shore and South Shore winner will be selected in each category.

“We would like to thank and honor those individuals in our community that are making a real difference protecting Lake Tahoe,” said Joanne Marchetta, Executive Director of the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency. “We are looking for nominees that exhibit not only a strong commitment to the environment, but also model a spirit of collaboration and cooperation,” she said.

Nominations for the Lake Spirit Awards can be made online at www.trpa.gov, and will be accepted through Monday, December 2, 2013.  Award winners will be announced at TRPA’s Governing Board meeting on Wednesday, December 18.

The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency leads the cooperative effort to preserve, restore, and enhance the unique natural and human environment of the Lake Tahoe Region, while improving local communities, and people’s interactions with our irreplaceable environment.
