Permitting Service Appointments

The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) works to provide outstanding customer service and continually looks for ways to streamline the permit process and improve efficiency. Getting help in the initial planning phase often saves applicants time and sets the foundation for a streamlined project. The agency offers free permitting service appointments to answer basic questions and help applicants prepare for a successful project. If you wish to have a planner call you directly without an appointment, please call our customer service number (775) 589-5333. Our planners return calls within 48 hours on business days.

Before scheduling an appointment, please check if the application should be submitted to TRPA or to one of our local government partners by visiting Where To Apply. You can schedule appointments for 15 or 30 minutes and virtually or in-person. Please be aware appointments are not available for:

• • Permit status updates
    • If you have already submitted an application, please check the most current status of your application at www.LakeTahoeInfo.org or contact the planner assigned to your project.
  • Complex questions needing more than a 30-minute appointment
    • See pre-application consultations below for more involved or advanced projects.

Here are descriptions of appointment options to help you select the right type:

Phone Appointments

• • 15-minute appointment
  • Ideal for answering basic questions about a property or project area.
  • Helpful for answering questions that do not require viewing documents or plans.
  • You will receive a confirmation email confirming your appointment, and TRPA staff will call the number provided at the scheduled time and date.
  • To change or cancel your appointment, go to your confirmation email and click “change your appointment.”

Virtual Appointments

• • 30-minute appointments.
  • Helpful for reviewing plans or documents with TRPA staff.
  • Helpful for assistance with online permit submittal.
  • Shorezone appointments for projects involving piers, moorings, and other projects and activities in the Shorezone.
  • Please prepare for your appointment by following these instructions (pdf).
  • Virtual meetings are conducted over the Microsoft Teams.
  • You will receive a confirmation email with a link to the Teams meeting that you will need to join at the scheduled time and date. Please check your spam or junk folder if you do not have a confirmation email.

In-Person Appointments

• • 30 minute appointments at the TRPA office, 128 Market Street, Stateline, Nevada.
  • Helpful for reviewing physical or digital plans and documents with TRPA staff.
  • Helpful if needing assistance with online permit submittal.

Pre-Application Consultations

For more complex projects, the agency also offers helpful pre-application consultations for a fee. These appointments are ideal for discussing project concepts, permit processes, needed information, and possible issues in advance. Planners and sometimes other TRPA experts (i.e. scenic, BMPs, tree removal) will be able to provide preliminary input and advice. Apply here.
